Safest Cities in America

Danger comes in many forms and while we can’t avoid all of it, nobody wants to live in a place that isn’t safe. Of course, some cities do a better job of protecting their residents from risks and a new report tells us where they are.

  • WalletHub has just come out with their list of the Safest Cities in America in 2024.
  • To find the places where Americans can feel most secure, the site compared 182 cities across the country on 41 key indicators of safety in three main areas: home & community safety, natural disaster risk and financial safety.
  • Cities were rated on factors including assaults per capita, thefts and hate crimes per capita, the unemployment rate and the percentage of the population that’s uninsured.
  • This year’s safest city is South Burlington, Vermont, which comes in at number one for financial safety.
  • Columbia, Maryland, eighth overall, is number one for home & community safety, while Juneau, Alaska, 16th overall, is tops for natural disaster risk.
  • At the bottom of the list is Memphis, Tennessee, making it the least safe city. It comes in second to last for financial safety, and third from last for home & community safety.
