A man named Shoji Morimoti rents himself out to people who want him to do nothing except be there. Shoji began his "rental person" service in 2018, and says he's been hired more than 4,000 times.
What has he been rented for? He's been hired to:
- Watch a woman search for a husband on matchmaking sites
- Accompany a client to file their divorce papers
- Bid someone farewell at a railway station
- Waited for a client at a marathon finishing line
Shoji has published a memoir called "Rental Person Who Does Nothing" talking about his experiences and his unique line of work.
